Not to be outdone by the massive snowstorm that stifled the East Coast this weekend, NorCal has been racking up quite a bit of precipitation itself. So much so, that we had to cancel our trip up to Mt. Shasta for the Shasta Ascension Backcountry Ski race due to lousy road conditions.
Just over the last couple days, Mother Nature has dumped over two feet of snow on Mt. Shasta and Lassen Volcanic National Park. That makes 9.5 feet of snow on Lassen so far this year, and close to nine feet of snow at Mt. Shasta Ski Park. Many waterways and reservoirs as well have been filling at an incredible rate. At one point last week, Lake Shasta rose 3.77 feet in 24 hours.
All this precipitation is good news, but what's more, conditions should be sunny and clear for next couple days. Why not take advantage of the conditions, and ski at Mt. Shasta Ski Park, take a ranger-led snowshoe tour at Lassen Volcanic National Park, do some Nordic skiing or go backcountry skiing from Bunny Flats?

Last but not least, Lake Shasta has benefitted hugely from recent storms raising 32 feet in just a matter of days. However, we won't be satisfied until those towering dirt walls are mere slivers.
