Arrival Mountain Biking
The Redding Mountain Biking Club will offer its annual “Introduction to Mountain Biking” classes this month for mountain biking enthusiasts as well as those new to the sport. Participants will become familiar with their bikes and riding capabilities, explore Shasta County’s expanding trail system, and learn how to successfully traverse the ever-changing mountain-biking terrain.
Weekly classes will be held under the direction of Ellis Goad and other RMB members on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., commencing March 22 and continuing through May 3, at various locations that connect with local trail systems. The course is $20 per person, which also includes a one-year membership in the Redding Mountain Biking Club. It is free to current members.
Riders are encouraged to attend the first session at Sports LTD, where the mechanics will be available to address any minor problems with their bikes. Joe Arbuckle from Headwaters Adventure Company will also be on hand to help with proper bike setup.
Course Ride Schedule
All sessions are held on Tuesdays and begin at 6PM
Session #1: March 22nd
Meet in the parking lot of Sports LTD – 950 Hilltop Drive, Redding. The mechanics at Sports LTD will be available to address minor problems you may have with your bike. Joe Arbuckle from Headwaters Adventure Company will be on hand to help with proper bike setup. We do encourage you to show up with your bike is good working order. Therefore, to help facilitate this, the following bike shops offer a 10 percent discount on bike parts as part of your RMB membership. Once you have paid for the series you are a member: Sports LTD, The Bike Shop, Village Cycle, Bikes Etc.. The Chain Gang Bike Shop donates 10 percent of the purchase price of any parts and accessories directly to RMB. After everyone is set up and ready, we will ride Hilltop Dr. to the River Trail and proceed to the Sundial Bridge.
Session #2: March 29th
Meet at Swasey Recreation Area. Google Maps enter: 40.553966, -122.475776 We will be at the Second parking area at the top of the hill. Stay on the gravel road pass the first parking area until it ends.
Session #3: April 5th
Meet at the Senior Center parking lot – 2290 Benton Drive. We will proceed up the River Trail and onto the FB trail.
Session #4: April 12th
Meet at the Hornbeck Trail Head off Quartz-Hill Road.
Session #5: April 19th
Meet at Mary Lake to ride the Westside Trails. We meet across the street from 1635 Lakeside Drive (Between Placer Rd. and Eureka Way). Take Lakeside Drive off Buenaventura Blvd. and park by the lake.
Session #6: April 26th
Meet at Swasey Recreation Area. Google Maps enter: 40.553966, -122.475776 We will be in the first parking area by the bathrooms.
Session #7: May 3rd
Meet at Swasey Recreation Area Last session of the series. We will have a potluck BBQ. RMB will provide hamburgers, hot dogs buns and water.
